Abstract

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out in the Camilo Ponce Enríquez canton, Azuay province, Ecuador. The study aimed to assess the behavior of physical, chemical and microbiological properties through laboratory analysis techniques of water intended for human consumption. For the work, the technical laboratory reports of the year 2023 were used to compare each of the different physical-chemical and microbiological parameters such as color, conductivity, turbidity, temperature, pH, salinity, resistibility, total dissolved solids, arsenic, chlorine, copper, chromium, fluorides, nitrates, nitrites, iron, sulfates; microbiological parameters such as fecal coliforms to determine if the water is suitable for consumption. The results taken into consideration are compared with the reference values. After the comparison, we can say that most of the physical-chemical parameters comply with the reference values for maximum permissible limits in water for human consumption and the color parameter does not comply with the reference values in each of the samples analyzed (catchment, treatment plant, and domestic network). One of the factors for which this parameter is out of range is the permanent rains in the canton, which can drag sediments and this makes the water become too turbid and alter its quality. In addition, dissolved and suspended components can directly impact the quality of the water.
