Abstract

Climate change represents one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century. This phenomenon manifests itself in extreme weather events that significantly impact several economic sectors, especially agriculture.  In Ecuador, the influence of climate change is increasingly evident due to the increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather phenomena that have caused significant losses in agricultural production, impacting the country's economy and the food security of its population. In this country there is great dependence on the agricultural sector, a fundamental pillar of its economy; Therefore, the situation faced by the Ecuadorian agricultural sector due to climate change is raised as a problem; to which this research responds with a mixed approach and descriptive and correlational scope; which aims to evaluate the impact of climate change on the business management of the agricultural sector in the Cayambe canton. As a result, a strong correlation was demonstrated between the variables climate change and agricultural business management and it was confirmed that the climate change indicators studied are good predictors and affect respectively, inversely and directly the indicators of agricultural business management and impact their vulnerability and sustainability. It also opens the possibility of future research related to the topic; not only in the Cayambe canton, but in other territorial units of Ecuador.
