Abstract

Abstract

The work was carried out at the Santa Inés farm of UTMACH. Its objective was to demonstrate the effect of Azolla in broiler feed on zootechnical parameters. It was applied a completely randomized experimental design. A total of 160 broilers were used in four treatments, four replicates, and ten birds per experimental unit, distributed in independent cages with management, biosecurity, and basic vaccination plan. They were fed in two phases, three weeks with the initial feed and three weeks with the fattening feed. Azolla was incorporated on the third day; treatment (T1) received only commercial feed, (T2) incorporated 5% Azolla, (T3) incorporated 10% Azolla, and (T4) incorporated 15% Azolla. The results show that the feed consumption in (T4) was higher than the others with (72,539.25 g) followed by (T2) with (70,441.5 g), then T3 with (70,132.25 g) and finally (T1) with (68. 755.75 g); the highest weight is in (T1) (3,864.98 g), followed by (T2) (3,853.85 g), then (T3) (3,817.13 g) and finally (T4) (3,682.26 g); in the conversion index in order is (T1) with 1.78, followed by (T2) with 1.83, then (T3) with 1.94, finally (T4) with 2.08. It is concluded that Azolla spp. can replace up to 5% of the balanced feed in broiler feeding without affecting the productive parameters.
