Abstract

This research explores the impact of agriculture in the prevention of self-harming behaviors and in strengthening psychological well-being in the Chitán, Navarrete parish. It is based on the premise that agricultural activity, by promoting contact with nature, physical activity and social integration, can act as an effective strategy to improve mental health and reduce the risk of self-harming thoughts. The objective is to determine the role of agriculture as a tool for prevention and strengthening well-being in the community of Chitán, Navarrete. The approach used is mixed to obtain a comprehensive view of the impact of agriculture on mental health. The 55% of farmers reported high levels of psychological well-being, compared to only 15% of non-farmers. Those who practiced agriculture more than 10 hours a week reported a 30% reduction in stress levels and a 25% reduction of anxiety. The 35% mentioned contact with nature as the main benefit, 25% highlighted physical activity and 20% highlighted the sense of community as a key to well-being. Agriculture has a positive impact on reducing stress and anxiety, and promoting emotional well-being.
