Propuesta de indicadores para determinar la calidad ambiental como contribución al desarrollo local

Abstract

Indicators for determining environmental quality are instruments for evaluating the state of the environment through various variables, and are essential for informing policy decisions and encouraging citizen participation in environmental management. Environmental indicators allow evaluating and monitoring the sustainability of natural resources and their relationship with human activities and are essential for decision making in public policies and environmental management at different levels from local to national. In this sense, the present research is developed with the objective of proposing a system of indicators to determine the environmental quality of a municipality in the Cuban context. For the preparation of the system of indicators, an extensive bibliographic review was carried out, taking as a basis determining factors to evaluate the environment and the criteria of experts for the validation of the proposed indicators, the proposal can be applicable to any Cuban municipality depending on its characteristics.
