Abstract

Abandonment of elderly people in Ecuador has emerged as an alarming social problem that violates the human rights and dignity of these people, especially those who reside in rural areas. Therefore, the study has focused on analyzing the indignity due to the abandonment of elderly people in Tulcán to promote the establishment of sanctions for responsible heirs within the Ecuadorian legal framework. As well as promoting greater social awareness, especially in rural communities, known as those with the greatest social impact. The research was developed through surveys and interviews, collecting data on social perception and the current legal situation related to the abandonment of older adults in various Ecuadorian communities. The results indicated a high social awareness about the seriousness of abandonment and broad support for the inclusion of legal sanctions. As well as the support of the majority of those surveyed in favor of promoting the reform of the Civil Code to incorporate this cause of indignity. Consequently, it is concluded that it is imperative to reform Ecuadorian legislation to effectively protect older adults. In addition to promoting awareness and education about their rights, where abandonment is prevented and a more supportive environment is promoted in both urban and rural areas.
