Assembly members of rural origin: analysis of compliance with requirements

Abstract

The analysis of assembly members of rural origin and the requirements to exercise political functions highlights the importance of their training, experience and knowledge to guarantee fair representation. The established requirements, such as those present in article 119 of the Constitution of Ecuador, have sparked debates about their suitability and relevance. The 2008 Constitution simplified eligibility criteria, which has raised concerns about the capacity and quality of assembly members. Additionally, rural leaders face specific barriers, such as limited access to education and job opportunities, which affects their political participation. The study aims to analyze the degree of compliance with formal requirements by assembly members of rural origin.

and propose strategies that facilitate the access of rural assembly members to political positions and promote more equitable representation. For which an interview and a survey were applied. It was concluded that, with adequate support, rural assembly members can overcome current limitations and contribute effectively to national politics. Measures are proposed that could improve the representation of rural areas and encourage more equitable political participation.
