Factores limitantes en la producción de semillas en la provincia de Cienfuegos

Resumen

Este estudio estuvo dirigida a determinar los factores que limitan la producción de semillas y su calidad en Cienfuegos. La investigación fue no experimental y se usó un diseño longitudinal en el período del 2001 al 2012 a través de la recopilación de datos de archivo, entrevistas y recorridos por las áreas de producción. Se hizo la caracterización de la producción de semillas y su calidad de la Empresa de Semillas Varias. Se consideró la actividad de los productores pertenecientes 2a la agricultura urbana y suburbana asociados, en función de esta tarea. Se determinaron los factores limitantes de la producción de semilla. Los resultados indicaron que en la Empresa de Semillas Varias de Cienfuegos se manifiestó una tendencia a la disminución de los niveles de producción de semilla y un proceso de erosión genética. Los niveles de las categorías de semillas Básicas, Registradas y Certificadas decrecieron y las Fiscalizadas se incrementaron de forma sostenida. Los productores desconocían las variedades que empleaban y aunque produjeron semillas carecían de los conocimientos necesarios. Se produjeron afectaciones productivas y económicas por la baja calidad de las mismas lo cual demanda una mayor capacitación. Entre los factores que limitaron la producción de las semillas y su calidad se encuentran la infraestructura productiva, la disponibilidad de los recursos, problemas de la institución a nivel nacional, insuficientes conocimientos sobre la producción de semillas, afectaciones por el cambio climático, problemas fitosanitarios y de comercialización.

Abstract.

The work had as objective to determine the factors that limit the production of seeds and its quality in Cienfuegos. A non-experimental investigation was developed, using a longitudinal design in the period from the 2001 to the 2012 making a documental revision, interviews and visits to the production areas. The characterization of the production of seeds and their quality of the Company of Several Seeds was made, as well as, of the activity of the producers belonging to the agriculture urban and suburban associates in function of this task. The restrictive factors of the seed production were determined. The results indicate that the Company of Several Seeds of Cienfuegos shows a tendency to the decrease of the levels of seed production and a process of genetic erosion. The levels of the categories Basic, Registered and Certified seeds fall and those Inspectedare increased in a sustained way. The producers ignore the varieties that use, they produce their seeds, although they lack the necessary knowledge, productive and economic affectations take place for the drop quality of the same ones and more training is required. Among the factors that limit the production of the seeds and their quality are the productive infrastructures, the readiness of the resources, and problems of the institution at national level, insufficient knowledge on the production of seeds, affectations for the climatic change, phytosanitary problems and the commercialization.
