Palabras clave: Gasterophilus spp, larvas, parasitismo equino.ABSTRACTIt was carried out a study of the extension and intensity of the Gasterophilus spp during 2014 in 16 equine half-breed deceased that were remitted to the Provincial Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine, from the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC) ¨Guanaroca¨, belonging to the state sector of the municipality of Cienfuegos. The purpose was to determine the extension and intensity of invasion of the Gasterophilus in the UBPC. The antecedents of each animal were registered in the records made by the veterinary service that assists the UBPC. The variables were: age, sex, race and corporal condition. The gathered data were processed, and subjected to a statistical analysis by means of the method of comparison of proportions for a P < 0,05, using the statistical package SPSS, version 11.5 for Windows. Of the 16 horses examined, 12 were infested by this parasite in a 75 % extension range. The intensity was of 1136 parasites, with an average of 94,6 parasites by animal with extreme values of 45 at 150 and it was observed more than 50 larvae in 83,3 % affected equines. Both the extension and the intensity Gasterophilus spp invasion in the UBPC, behaved with high indexes, contributing to the reduction of the productive capacity of the equine and the mortality of this animal specie. Keywords: Gasterophilus spp, equine parasitism, extension, intensity, level of infestation.
