ABSTRACTThe inadequate selection of coffee beans to obtain seeds generates the need to develop methodologies to evaluate and identify the optimal points to obtain quality seedlings. The objective of the work was to implement a methodology that allows identifying the most suitable lateral and knots to obtain quality seeds. For this research, 10 elite plants of the Sarchimor and Bourbón variety were selected. The seedlings obtained were evaluated according to the BBCH scale (Arcila et al., 2001). The following variables were evaluated in the lateral grains of elite plants: °Brix, grain color and grain shape, and in the seeds were evaluated: weight of good seeds, empty seeds, number of days of germination, emergence, and in seedlings: hypocotyl length, leaf area with the first, second and third pair of leaves and number of days of appearance of the first, second and third pair of leaves. Statistical analysis was performed with the IBM-SPSS 25 software. The two varieties of coffee in the division of laterals and grouping of knots presented statistically significant differences (p=0.05). It was possible to identify the most suitable site of the laterals for obtaining seeds and it was also observed that the variety influences the results. Keywords: Phenotypic characteristics, lateral, suitable, genetics, knots.
